Balance and Gait

Feeling in balance is essential to keep us safe from falling. More than just fall prevention, balance helps you regain energy and allows you to move through your day with confidence. It also gives you a range of motion and the ability to change your gait from slow to fast, from straight to turning.

Judith is a Matter of Balance (MOB) certified teacher. This evidence-based program, designed by the National Council on Aging, assures safety and confidence in movement.

Redefine what it means to stand on your own two feet

  • Learn to balance, seated and standing, and feel secure as you shift weight and experiment safely with movement in all directions.

  • This class will help you align your body and mind for better balance, then take you across the floor with a variety of options for slow, quick, turning, and pivoting gait. You can take class in the chair and still benefit.

One participant, Carol B, says, “You hit every note I needed to hear!”

“So many aspects of this class are helpful, though helpful is a weak word.

During the hour, you address every aspect of my PD body movement that challenges my mobility. My normal stumbling into walls and doorways and consequential bruising has lessened, thanks to this class. You address SO many things I didn't even know were contributing to the problem. Cross-body movements, like following a ball in hand from upper left to lower right, have helped me develop a more graceful and thoughtful practice of moving through spaces. Incorporating these exercises both in my home and in public spaces, I know has prevented falls and lessened my fear of engaging in this new community.

You coaching us how to move our feet, legs, and hips side to side, dipping, crossing, cardinal directions, and rotation has also helped strengthen my old rickety hips, knees, and ankles. Keeping these joints fluid also reduces their stiffness and pain.

I am truly grateful for your class! It is vital to my intention to delay the progression of this condition/disease and your encouragement is vital to my own positive attitude.”
